Richard Sarge Strieter

Richard (Sarge) Miller Strieter, 62, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2015.  Sarge was born October 3, 1952 in La Porte, Indiana to Richard Martin Strieter and Pauline Jean (Godsey) Strieter both who have preceded him in death.

Sarge wrestled and played football for La Porte High School.  He graduated in 1971 and went on to play football for Montana Tech.  His team was runner-up to the national champions in his freshman year.  Sarge was inducted into the

La Porte Slicers Football Hall of Fame on May 7, 1994.

Sarge loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. Sarge had been employed by Strieter's Lawn and Garden in sales.  He was also employed by McCulloch and Poulan.  Sarge is survived by a daughter Ava Strieter of South Bend, Indiana; a son, Baret Strieter of La Porte, Indiana; a grandson; and a sister, Diana (John) Gunnell of Indianapolis, Indiana. 

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015.  A memorial service will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Essling Funeral Home, 1117 Indiana Ave., La Porte, Indiana.
