Alyssa, i never got to meet you, i do remember you sis leslie when she was little(10), but when i got married back 2-22-1980, i moved
to phx az and still live there, so we never met in person.I am one of three girls that your aunt kathy (vath) tyler had. I am in disbelief and can't believe that the lord has taken him home. From what i understand, he went for a routine stint implant and something happened. I am soooo sorry and blown away. I too have had 2 stints implanted for blocked artiries and that having the procedure done allready then find out this, never no why things are the way they are, but all for a reason that only one knows why. I'm James, I grew up and went to school with Joe. His folks lived on Adams Street mine on Washington in Westmont. Joe was always fun and outgoing always the 1st to try something some times getting all in trouble. My best memory of him Downers Grove HS was with his signature colored or white levi's,white button down shirt and penny loafers. He will be missed ,but will always be with us. You'll have him in your hearts , minds, and generations to come . Will miss you old friend.

Our church family will sorely miss Joe. His upbeat attitude encouraged us with every meeting. We all will miss his smile and servant's heart. Joe gave so much to so many, making each of us feel special, giving each of us a smile.... thank you for sharing him with us Barb. May you and your girls feel our love and prayers. My deepest sympathies and prayers go out to the entire Vath family. I never knew Joe personally, but he would visit our office and each and every time he walked through the door he lit up the room. His kind words and amazing smile always made my day much brighter and I am a better person for having known him. Thank you.

I've been very saddened since learning the news of Joe's passing.

I'm one of Joe's co-workers and considered him a friend.

I remember my conversations with Joe as he would always provide uplifting words and encouragement. He embodied the phrase "making everyone a winner" as he was one himself. He will be truly missed and my sympathies and prayers go out to his entire family, as well as all of his friends.

As I reflect on Joe's passing, I'm recalling the words of comfort that Ronald Reagan shared with us after the Challenger disaster. I believe they are applicable to Joe. He has now "slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God."

My deepest condolences.

"Papa" Joe was an amazing man, friend, leader, Catholic, human being. He touched our lives in ways we are sure he never knew. He was always there when we needed him, no matter what else he had going on. We always knew we could count on Joe. He was always ready with a hug, a "love ya", and a smile. We never knew him to be in a bad mood, or downtrodden about anything. We couldn't help but feel loved, supported, inspired, and happy with Joe around. It is hard to imagine this world without him. To say the world lost a great one is an understatement.

Barb and family, thank you so much for sharing Joe with us. You are forever in our hearts and prayers. Our deepest sympathies to you all. God bless you and God bless "Papa" Joe.

I met Joe in the early 80s when he was with another company. In recent years we worked together at Transco. I knew him to be outgoing, vibrant, non-stop and full of life. The rail industry will greatly miss him and Transco will miss him even more. May the grace of God and peace be with the family and always with Joe.
