Gerhard A. Huenecke

Gerhard A. Huenecke, 86, of La Porte, Indiana passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016.  Gerhard was born March 2, 1930 in La Porte, Indiana to Arthur and Minnie (Karsten) Huenecke.  He was a Printer retiring in 2000, having bought Danatchek Printing in 1975, and formerly was employed with Tri State Printing and Service Printing.

On February 12, 1952, Gerhard married Nancy Schultz who survives.  Surviving with his wife of 64 years are daughters, Linda (Andy) Coates of Louisville, Kentucky, Marsha (Michael) Tangen of Blue Grass, Iowa, Cynthia (David) Presley of Mattawan, Michigan; grandchildren, Robin Haysley, Kevin Coates, Matthew Meredith, Mason, & Morgan Tangen, Nicholas & Brian Presley; great granddaughters, Ashtyn Haysley and Harper Presley.

sisters, Jerry Rose of La Porte, Shirley Shortt of La Porte; and a brother, Herbert Huenecke of New Prairie, Indiana.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Peterson and a brother, Arthur Huenecke.

Gerhard graduated from La Porte High School in 1948 and was a member of the Hall of Fame for Football.  He played semi-pro football for the Michigan City Shamrocks for two years; served his country during the Korean War; was a member of the former La Porte High School Boosters Club and had a great interest in La Porte High School sports.  Gerhard also served as secretary for the Booster Bowling League at Thunderbird Bowling Alley for 30 years. 

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, ESSLING CHAPEL, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A funeral will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ronald A. Brauer officiating.  Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in La Porte.
