Bernice Faye (Patterson) Garber

Bernice Faye Garber, 82, of LaPorte, Indiana passed away Friday, September 11, 2015. Bernice was born August 20, 1933 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Charles and Grace (Birlingmair) Patterson.

Bernice graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing in Bloomington, Indiana in 1956.  

She taught OB Nursing in Evansville, IN. She worked in the Substance Abuse Unit at Memorial Hospital and was a Pediatric Nurse at St. Anthony’s in Michigan City.

Bernice was a member of United Methodist Church where she served as a past president of United Methodist Women.  She also was a member and president of LaPorte High School Music Parents and a Volunteer for 4-H Club.

On February 5, 1957 she married Ronald Garber who preceded her in death in 2002.  Bernice is survived by two sons; Sean Garber of Speedway, Indiana, Shane (Laura) Garber of LaPorte, Indiana, three daughters; Shivaun Garber of LaPorte, Indiana, Sharon Garber of LaPorte, Indiana and Seana (Ted) Garber-Robertson of Ellettsville, Indiana; 12 Grandchildren; 2 Great-Grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernice was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Patterson.

A memorial service will be held at The First United Methodist Church in LaPorte on Monday, September 28th at 11AM, with visitation starting at 9AM until the time of service.
