Zenon Resiak Obituary

Zenon Resiak, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in La Porte, at the venerable age of 97. Born on May 23, 1928, in the small town of Welnianka, Poland, Zenon was the beloved son of the late Piotr and Katarzyna (Olech) Resiak. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of knowledge.

Zenon's intellectual curiosity led him to earn a Chemistry degree in his native Poland, furthering his education with a Mechanical Technology degree from Purdue University. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful career as a Mechanical Engineer with Joy Manufacturing, where he worked until his retirement in 1989. Zenon's intelligence, quick wit and adventurous spirit made him a respected and humorous colleague, whose contributions to the field were both significant and lasting.

On October 6, 1979, Zenon's life was enriched by his union with Michelle M. Majka, who survives him. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and travel. Zenon was a dedicated father to daughter Katarzyna (Janusz) Marciniak of Michigan City, son Zbigniew "Zig" (Angela) Resiak of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, stepdaughter Margaret Picur of Michigan City, Indiana, step daughter Irene Morgan of Noblesville, Indiana, and step son Roman (Ellen) Dziaba of Buffalo Grove, Illinois. His legacy continues through his 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his wisdom and the joy he brought to their lives.

Born into a world on the brink of war, Zenon's resilience was tested early on. As a young man, he survived the horrors of World War II, a testament to his courage and tenacity. In a daring feat that would later be replicated by the Polish Navy to demonstrate its difficulty, Zenon along with his long time friend Witold Jarzyna who survives crossed the Baltic Sea in a canoe, a harrowing three day journey that would become a defining moment of their lives.

Zenon's adventurous spirit knew no bounds. His passion for exploration led him to travel to every continent on Earth, each journey adding to the rich tapestry of his experiences. A highlight of his travels was a private audience with the Dalai Lama, an encounter that exemplified Zenon's deep respect for diverse cultures and his quest for wisdom.

A skilled aviator, Zenon was an active member of the BD-5 aircraft network, sharing his passion with fellow enthusiasts. His piloting prowess was showcased in an impressive feat when he flew a twin-engine airplane from Michigan City to India and back, a journey that spoke to his fearless nature and technical expertise. Zenon's camaraderie with fellow pilots extended beyond the airstrip. He shared a memorable meal with the legendary musician and pilot John Denver at his home, an experience that underscored his ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

A member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church in La Porte, Zenon's faith was a source of strength and guidance throughout his life. His commitment to his church community reflected the deep values he held dear and the legacy of kindness and compassion he leaves behind.

Zenon Resiak lived a life that many could only dream of—a life marked by bravery, intelligence, and an unquenchable thirst for adventure. His story will continue to inspire those who knew him and those who will come to know of him through the tales of his remarkable exploits.

Though he was preceded in death by his six siblings in Poland, Zenon's memory will be kept alive by those who knew and loved him.
