Wallace Wisnieski Obituary

Wallace C. Wisnieski, 94, of La Porte, passed away October 3, 2022.

He was born October 30, 1927, in Michigan City, Indiana.  The son of Carl and Sophia (Kominarek) Wisnieski.

On August 30, 1969, in La Porte, he married Jo Ann Stephani, who survives.

Wally graduated from La Porte High School in 1945, where he played football and was named to All State.  After high school, he entered into Valparaiso University to major in business and also earned a letter playing on the University Football Team along with Abe Gibron.  Before completing college, he was drafted into the Army.  He was a Sergeant in the 10th Mountain Division attached to the 2nd Battalion stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He is currently a member of American Legion Post #83 in La Porte. In the 1950’s he was Chairman of the 4th of July Parade in La Porte for three years where he received the Key Award for Outstanding Citizen of the Year.  He enjoyed serving as President of the County Conservation Club in La Porte for forty years.  He was also President of the COHO Club.  Wally was an avid bowler in various leagues for fifty years.  In his younger years he played league fast-pitch softball for many years.  Fishing was another favorite way to pass time that netted him many tournament trophy wins.  He also was an active hunter.  For many years he acted in numerous plays at La Porte Little Theatre.  Wally served as President of the NALC Union Branch #200 for ten years before retiring from the U.S. Post Office. 

He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, Gail (Kevin) Rumbaugh and Heather Wisnieski; and one sister, Barbara (Fred) Moritz of Washington, 

Preceding him in death were his parents; Carl and Sophia Wisnieski; siblings, Carl Wisnieski, Jr, Toni DeRover, Geraldine Wallen, and infant siblings-Edwin Wisnieski and Adeline Wisnieski.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana where a funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Deacon Bob Bucheit officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
