Terry Varga, age 78, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.
He was born on January 4, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois to George Varga, Sr. and Eleanor (Gurbacki) Varga, who preceded him in death.
Terry is lovingly remembered by his sister, Cindy (Paul) Lapidus of Redding, California; his brother, George (Deborah) Varga, Jr. of La Porte; his niece and nephews, Lauren (Ryan McCormick) Varga, Cole (Stephanie Haines) Varga, Ryan Lapidus, and Drew Lapidus; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Chloe, Owen, Cordelia, Vaden, Blake, and Max.
Terry enjoyed traveling internationally and around the United States. A Vietnam War veteran, he frequently spoke about the places he went during his service. Terry traveled extensively throughout California and visited all 92 counties in Indiana after retiring from Bethlehem Steel. He was passionate about history, earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Indiana State University, and continuing to read throughout his life. Terry loved all animals, especially his cat, Shadow. He collected coins, stamps, and foreign beer bottles. Terry was proud of his Hungarian and Polish ancestry and spent many hours recording family genealogy. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, in La Porte.
Memorial contributions may be made in Terry’s memory to the La Porte County Historical Society or Holy Family Parish.
