Shirley J. (Huenecke) Shortt

Shirley J. Shortt, 87 of La Porte, Indiana passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka.

She was born on March 1, 1938, in La Porte, to Arthur and Minnie Huenecke.

On June 28, 1958 Shirley married Thomas L. Shortt who preceded her in death on February 19, 2012.

Shirley is survived by her children, Michael (Christine) Shortt of La Porte, Indiana, Ricky (Shireen) Shortt of Winter Garden, Florida; daughter-in-law Suzanna Shortt of Grottoes, Virginia; grandchildren, Sky (Cole) Kellogg, Storm (Natalie) Shortt, Meghan Shortt, Patrick (Molly) Shortt, and Derek Lynch; great grandchildren, Benjamin Shortt, Carmieliz Kellogg, Cataleya Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her son Barry Shortt; sisters, Jeanette Peterson, Jerry Rose; brothers, Arthur, Herbert, and Gerhard Huenecke.

Shirley was a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of La Porte who loved reading her bible daily and enjoyed doing paint by numbers. She attended St. John’s Lutheran School and was a graduate of La Porte High School.

A funeral service will be held at 4 PM Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where family and friends may visit from 2 PM to 4 PM prior to the service in the funeral home.
