Sharon Ann Welty, a beacon of kindness and love, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in La Porte, Indiana, surrounded by her family at the age of 86.
Born in Walkerton, Indiana, on September 21, 1938, to Leslie Noah Job and Verda (Lollman) Job, Sharon’s life was a testament to her spirited and caring nature. In 1988, Sharon's heart found its match when she married Tim Welty, and together they cultivated a family that would become her pride and joy. A devoted mother, she raised her children, Cynthia (Gary) Tefteller, Debra (late husband, Bill Johnson) Thompson, Sharon (Randy Beal) Nieto, David Nieto, and Kimberly Kay (Chip) McDonald, with unwavering love and support. Her legacy continued to flourish through her cherished grandchildren, Lisa, Lori, and John Tefteller, Jason and Eric Thompson, Brooke Johnson, Brandon and Nathan Nieto, Brittany Netzer, Bethany, Joshua, and Ashley Adamson, and Ash, Grace, and Maddy McDonald. Sharon also delighted in the blessings of many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and a niece Susie (Mike) Mollenhauer who all brought immense joy to her life.
Sharon’s sister, Becky (Gene) McCann of Edgemont, South Dakota, will fondly remember her sister's vibrant spirit. She joins in heaven her siblings Bobby, Charlie, Gladys, Velma, JoEllen, and Terry, who preceded her in passing.
Sharon's professional life was marked by her dedication and service. She worked at Al's East Super Market, at La Porte Hospital for five years, and served the community at White Hen Pantry for eleven years. Her work was more than a job; it was an extension of her care for others.
A faithful Christian, Sharon was an active member of the La Porte First United Methodist Church. Her commitment to her faith was evident in her service on the Newcomers Committee, as Treasurer of her Sunday School Class, an Usher, and within the United Women in Faith Circle. Sharon’s generosity extended beyond her church walls; she volunteered with the La Porte Service League, touching the lives of many.
Those who knew Sharon were blessed by her kind and loving nature. She approached life with a spirited zest, always smiling, hard working, dedicated to her family, and finding joy in the simplest of moments and imparting warmth to all who crossed her path.
