Scott Browning Obituary

Scott Allen Browning, passed away on January 11, 2021 at Northwest Health LaPorte.  Scott was born December 24, 1970 in LaPorte, Indiana.  He recently celebrated his 50th birthday.  He was a graduate of LaPorte High School.  He began working at age 15 at ‘Round the Clock Restaurant and followed the owner to Christo’s Restaurant in LaPorte where he worked for 35 years. He started as a busboy and eventually became their chef.  During that time, he met Janice Cummins and they became great friends.  They were later married on May 27, 2000.

Jan survives, along with his parents Paul Browning and Kathy (Duvall) Browning, both of LaPorte, his sons Thomas Mofield of LaPorte and Cory Mofield and his wife Lauren of Woodridge, Illinois.  Surviving as well are his siblings Connie (Mike) George, Joel Browning, and Susan (Jim) Reese, all of LaPorte.  Scott is also survived by his nieces and nephews Damon Thomas, Dru Thomas, Brennah George and Caeden George.

Per Scott’s request, there will be no formal services, but the family asks that you honor his memory in your own special way.  Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.

Scott was an excellent cook.  He and Jan were an amazing team.  Scott would cook and Jan baked, much to the delight of their family and friends.  He also loved to grill outdoors, even through the winter.  In his spare time, he enjoyed drinking a cold beer, shooting pool and spending time with his family.  He especially loved his dogs Shelby, Angel and Izzy.  Scott was also a longtime fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears and loved going to concerts.  He and Jan’s last concert was Pearl Jam at Wrigley Field, an experience he talked about fondly.  Scott will be remembered by his friends and family as a hard worker.  He also knew how to enjoy life and loved going to Chicago to meet Cory and Lauren to find new and interesting “out of the way” restaurants.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Scott’s memory to the American Cancer Society.  To leave an online condolence, light a virtual candle in Scott’s honor, or share a memory of his life with his family at EsslingFuneralHome.com.
