Richard Vogel Obituary

Richard Calvin Vogel, a man of vibrant spirit and infectious humor, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025, at the age of 67 in La Porte. Born on August 24, 1958, in Chicago to the late James Vogel and Betty (McCarty) Vogel, Richard was known for his unwavering positivity and zest for life despite the challenges he faced due to Cerebral Palsy.

Richard, fondly known as "the man with the constant smile," graduated from La Porte High School, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and was admired for his tenacity and cheerful disposition. His resilience in the face of adversity was not just inspiring, but it was also a testament to his strong faith, which guided him throughout his life.

On September 20, 1980, Richard married his beloved wife, Connie Sue Vogel, with whom he shared a love that many only dream of. Their union was one of mutual support and deep affection until Connie's untimely passing on April 8, 2003. Richard cherished the memories of their time together and continued to live life with the same love and joy they had nurtured as a couple.

Though he faced personal losses, including the heartache of the passing of his daughter, Kayla Vogel, Richard's ability to find joy in the simplest of things never waned. His love for Hershey chocolate, iced coffee, Subway sandwiches, and clothes shopping brought him daily pleasures. His frequent online shopping sprees led to a humorous saying among his friends that "Richard loved Amazon, and Amazon loved him."

Richard's residence at Cambridge Square was more than just a home; it was a community where he was cherished for his independence, his fun-loving nature, and his spirited approach to life. His laughter and stories were the heartbeat of many gatherings, and his absence will leave a void impossible to fill.

Among those mourning Richard's passing is his special friend, Marianne Laskoske of La Porte, who stood by him with unwavering support and shared many of life's simple joys with him. Together, they found laughter in the everyday and companionship that enriched both their lives.

Those who knew Richard will remember him as a man who was loving, funny, and full of spirit. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, teaching by example that life is to be lived and enjoyed no matter the circumstances. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the indomitable spirit of a life well-lived.
