Micheal William Reese, known affectionately as Mike to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at his home in Laporte on August 30th, 2025 at the age of 48, surrounded by his wife and children. Born on August 2nd, 1977, in the same town he would eventually build his life and legacy, Mike was a beam of strength and love to all who knew him.
Mike’s journey began as the son of Mary Kay Reese and the stepson of Terry Hough. He grew up an only child but would meet his brother Brent (Rachel) Johnson and sister Jill (Mike) Rosenbaum later in life and form strong, unbreakable bonds with them both.
From a young age, Mike showed a remarkable aptitude for fixing things, a skill that he carried into his professional life as a maintenance maintainer at Ardagh Metals in Valparaiso, Indiana. There, his colleagues became his second family, a testament to his ability to form deep and lasting relationships with those around him. His work was not just a job; it was a place where he could share his kindness and generosity, traits that defined his character.
Mike's heart belonged first and foremost to his sweetheart, Autumn Reese. Their love story was one for the ages, beginning at the tender age of 17, enduring a brief separation, and rekindling with a passion that led them down the aisle in a medieval-style wedding at Fox Park in 2005. Together, they raised three wonderful boys, Bryce (Sami), Chase (Audrey), and Alex (Mary), and later welcomed Dacoda (Diane), affectionately known as Cody, into their fold. Mike's role as a father was one he cherished above all else, and his love for his children was a beacon that guided them through life's challenges.
The Reese homestead, built in 2008, was a labor of love for Mike and Autumn. Here, they raised goats, chickens, and pigs, and took joy in the simple pleasures of country living. Their involvement with the Goat Club during their boys' 4-H years was a source of pride and community. Each spring, Mike and Autumn would plant new life on their land, from fruit trees to Christmas trees, each addition a symbol of their commitment to nurturing their family and the earth.
Mike's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He relished hiking, camping, hunting, and shooting, but also found joy in quieter moments spent playing games or simply watching the day go by in his beloved garage. His 1985 Chevy truck was a project of particular pride, and the sight of his boys riding alongside their dad was a source of immeasurable happiness.
Mike's legacy is one of love, kindness, and generosity, qualities that he embodied every day of his life. He is survived by his devoted wife, Autumn, his loving children, Bryce( Sami), Chase(Audrey) Alex (Mary) Cody(Diane) and his cherished grandchildren, Kimmy, John Micheal, Charlee May, and Brooklynn. His mother, Mary Kay, stepfather, Terry, brother, Brent, sister, Jill, and several nieces and nephews will carry forward his memory with fondness and pride.
Micheal William Reese was a man who never met a stranger he didn't like, who never sugarcoated the truth, and who always had a helping hand to offer. His impact on the world was as profound as the love he shared, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to flourish in the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
