Mary Anne Gumz, 83, of Mill Creek, Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, while holding her granddaughter Danyelle’s hand.
She was born on January 29, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Mary Dan.
Mary Anne’s life can be summarized as one of dedication and warmth. She spent her early career as a salon owner, later applying her skills in several accounting offices, and ultimately drove a special‑needs school bus until retiring. Her true passions, however, revolved around family and animals. Mary Anne was an avid horse lover, spending countless hours at horse shows supporting her daughter Lisa and granddaughter Danyelle. She loved to cook and host family gatherings, decorating her home elaborately for holidays, and she saved and cared for many animals, doting especially on her fur babies Gutzie, Hazel, Muffy and Peady.
Mary Anne was preceded in death by her husband Victor Gumz Jr., her son Victor Gumz III, and her siblings George, Johnny and Dolly. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Marie Gumz (David) of Mill Creek; granddaughter Danyelle Gumz (Billy) of Niles, Michigan; and grandchildren Ian, Ava and Lucas along with great‑grandchildren Ivy and Leo.
A private burial will be held at Sauktown Cemetery in Mill Creek.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in La Porte.
