John was a cherished grandfather to Joshua Deutscher, Lindsey (Nicole) Deutscher, Ashley (Richard) Kroeger, Matthew (Sabrina) Blake, Amanda (Ryan) Layman, Amber Blake, and Halley Wolfe, and a proud great-grandfather to 18 great-grandchildren.

John's educational journey began in his hometown of Chicago and continued at Valparaiso Technical College, where he honed the skills that would define his career. A gifted electrician, John dedicated many years of service as an instructor at NIPSCO, sharing his knowledge and passion for the trade with countless apprentices and colleagues. His work ethic and intelligence were evident to all who knew him, and his contributions to the field left a lasting impact. John served his country in the United States Air Force for four years and then with the reserves until 1963.

Beyond his professional life, John was deeply involved in his local community. A faithful member of St. John Kanty Catholic Church in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, he played a pivotal role in constructing the church hall and spearheading numerous other projects. His commitment to service extended to his active participation in the Knights of Columbus in Rolling Prairie, and his membership with the V.F.W. in New Carlisle, Indiana. John was a loving father and grandfather, a hard worker, and a man of great intelligence.
