Joan K. Luther, a cherished wife, beloved aunt, and lifelong resident of La Porte, Indiana, and Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 7, 1942, to the late John and Doris (Orsborn) Sawyer, Joan's vibrant spirit and loving nature touched the lives of all who knew her.
Joan's life was one of dedication and joy. She married her soulmate, David S. Luther, on September 21, 1963, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and treasured memories. Joan's family was her pride and joy, and she is survived by her devoted husband, David, and her loving sister, Joyce (Ted) Szawara of La Porte and Ft. Myers, Florida. She was a cherished aunt to Cindy (Tom) Marovich, Chris (Tom) Heckman, Debbie (Rick) Lain, Peggy (Mark) Malstaff, Linda (Aaron) Fogus, Brett (Diane) Luther, Scott (Stacy) Luther and Todd (Frieda) Luther. Joan's warmth and generosity will be fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and all who were fortunate enough to be considered family. Her spirit will also be missed by her beloved dogs, Fifi, Muffy, and Mindy, who were her constant companions. She was preceded in death by a sister, Janet (Rudy) Conjalka.
Joan was a graduate of La Porte High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships. After completing her education, she embarked on a fulfilling career with the Whirlpool Corporation, where she worked in the Credit department and as a secretary. Joan's professionalism and dedication to her work were evident in all she did, and she was respected by her colleagues for her integrity and work ethic.
Beyond her professional life, Joan was known for her creative talents and her zest for life. She had a passion for making jewelry, belts, and hat bands, each piece a testament to her artistic spirit. Joan's culinary skills were legendary, especially her baked beans, which were a highlight at many family gatherings. Her love for playing cards and dominos was well-known, and she was always ready for a game with friends or family. To her nieces and nephews, Joan was the "fun aunt," always ready with a smile, a kind word, and an open heart.
Joan's presence was characterized by her loving nature, her spirited demeanor, and her creative flair. She lived her life with a generosity of spirit that inspired those around her. Joan's ability to find joy in the simple pleasures of life, from the companionship of her dogs to the laughter of her family, made her a beacon of light in the community.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where family and friends may visit from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to the services in the Funeral Home.
