Jeffrey J. Rucker, known affectionately as Jeff to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 64, in his hometown of La Porte, Indiana.
Born on January 18, 1961, to the late Glen and Jacqueline (Severs) Rucker, Jeff's life was one marked by kindness, dedication, and an extraordinary ability to care for those around him. Jeff is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 35 years, Mary (Plunckebaum) Rucker, whom he married on September 22, 1990.
His memory will be cherished by his loving siblings, Rebecca (Tom) Stupeck, Marcia (Dave) Shannon, Lisa (Matt) Bennett, Janet (Les) Robertson, and Gina (Tim) Teets. Jeff was a cherished uncle to several nieces and nephews, a respected in-law to many, and a devoted godfather to his goddaughter, Macy Stupeck. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Merry Rucker.
A proud graduate of La Porte High School and Lincoln Technical Institute Indianapolis, Jeff dedicated his professional life to the La Porte Community Schools as a HVAC Technician before becoming the Director of Maintenance at South Central Schools. His work was not just a job but a testament to his commitment to the community and its well-being.
Jeff was a gentle giant whose presence brought comfort and safety to all who knew him. He was the embodiment of selflessness, always putting others before himself. With hands that could fix anything and a heart that never hesitated to help, Jeff was the quintessential go-to guy for his family and friends. His loyalty knew no bounds, and his circle of friends was vast, a testament to the kind of man he was.
Those who knew Jeff would describe him as gentle, handy, and kind. His ability to listen, his patience in teaching, and his willingness to lend a hand were qualities that drew people to him. His interests were as humble as he was; he found joy in the simple acts of fixing what was broken and improving the world around him. Jeff's legacy is not only in the systems he maintained or the objects he repaired but in the hearts of those he touched with his generosity and spirit.
