Jackson “Jack” Paul Weir It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jackson “Jack” Paul Weir, age 68, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, following a courageous battle with illness.
Jack is lovingly survived by his children and stepdaughter: Laura Tremblay, Tyler Weir, and Courtney Weir; his sister, Yvonne Weir; his brother, Jonas Weir; former sister-in-law, Terry O’Neil; and nephews Jeffrey, Kenneth, and Kevin Weir. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandson, Kolby Tremblay.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Glendon Weir and Betty White.
Born on May 7, 1957, in La Porte, Indiana, Jack spent much of his life traveling both personally and professionally, ultimately dividing his later years between Port Angeles, Washington and his hometown of La Porte, where he retired in 2023 after a 26-year career with Local 716 Pipefitters Union of Augusta, Maine.
Retirement allowed him to spend more time enjoying life with the love of his life, Ann Sabinas, who survives.
Jack grew up in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, and graduated from New Prairie High School in 1975. He enjoyed playing hockey and baseball and remained a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. After serving nearly two years in the U.S. Army specializing in helicopter maintenance, he returned home in 1977 and went on to build an impressive career in welding. His work took him across the country as a commercial diver and later as a highly respected pressure welder and pipefitter in the oil, gas, and nuclear industries.
Jack’s adventurous spirit defined both his work and his personal life. He had a gift for helping others discover and appreciate new places, whether on a union job in an unfamiliar city, an outing with family and friends, or a favorite bike ride starting right from his driveway.
Jack was always looking toward the horizon, curious about what lay ahead. Known for his easy laughter, generosity, and approachability, Jack connected effortlessly with people—whether through shared service as a veteran, thoughtful conversations, or simple moments of humor. He was deeply committed to his values, proud of his blue-collar roots, and believed strongly in civic responsibility. Despite his extensive travels, skill, and intelligence, Jack remained humble and content with life’s simple pleasures: good food, a comfortable place to rest, familiar comforts, and his signature long white socks.
Jack was a truly unique and remarkable man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, and his memory will live on always.
A Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
