Frances Ostroski Obituary

Frances A. Ostroski, a cherished and vibrant soul, departed from this life on June 16, 2024, at the age of 99. Born on March 8, 1925, in Holmesville, Indiana, to the late Felix and Anna (Bara) Hycner, Frances was a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her. She passed away peacefully in La Porte, Indiana, surrounded by the love of her family.

Frances was united in marriage to Lawrence B. Ostroski on June 26, 1954. Their love story was one of true partnership and mutual respect until Lawrence's passing on February 23, 2009. Frances was also preceded in death by her parents and her husband, and siblings, Ann Fedder, Josephine Janowski, Thaddeus J. “Ted” Hycner, and Chester Hycner.

A dedicated mother and aunt, Frances is survived by her adoring daughter, Betty (Jeff Namenye) Grott of La Porte, Indiana, and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. Frances's unwavering love and guidance were the cornerstones of her family, and her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire them.

Frances's professional life was marked by her pioneering spirit and commitment to service. It all began when she was eligible to drive and taxied the Otis Nuns for their weekly groceries. She organized many events for the Otis Parish including one which invited both political parties to attend and have an equal opportunities to speak. She began her career as a telephone operator with Indiana Bell where she made history by placing the first international call from Michigan City and dedicating 20 years to the company. She took a break to raise her daughter, then continued her service to the community by joining the La Porte Community Schools in Food Service at Kesling School for 11 years. She loved getting out working with people and finished up her career in food promotions in stores before retiring at 80 years old.

A woman of deep faith, Frances was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish, Sacred Heart Church. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life, and it was reflected in her loving and generous nature. Frances was a beacon of light in her community, always extending a helping hand and a warm smile to those in need.

Travel, dining out, and tending to her beautiful garden were among Frances's favorite pastimes. She had a passion for flowers, and her garden was a testament to her love for nature's beauty. Frances also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as attending concerts, dancing, and the occasional visit to the casino. She lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and without any regrets. Frances’ often attributed her longevity of 99 years to her love for white flour, salt & sugar, hard work, and of course bacon—a testament to her spirited and humorous take on life.

Frances's life was a celebration of love, generosity, and faith. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and exuberance. Her presence was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and her memory will be treasured forever.

As we bid farewell to Frances A. Ostroski, we reflect on a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will continue to shine brightly. She will be deeply missed, but the memories she created will remain as a source of comfort and inspiration to all.
