Dr. David Henry Olson

LA PORTE: Dr. David Henry Olson, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 21st, 2025, in his home, La Porte, IN with his devoted wife, Kathryn (Moore) by his side.

David was born on May 14, 1944, in LaPorte, IN, to Henry Olson and Martha (Johnson) Olson, and lived in La Porte all his life.

On September 5, 1970, in Oak Park, IL, he married the love of his life Kathryn (Moore) for 54 years. Survivors include a son, Christopher David (Stefanie) Olson of La Porte; daughter Stephanie Ann (Nick) Lewis of La Porte; five grandchildren; Alex, Chase, Cameron and Keira Lewis and Grant Olson; two sisters; Barbra (Clyde) Line; and Cristine Semotuk. He was preceded in death by his parents.

David was affectionately known as ‘Doc’ growing up, a nickname that became prophetic when he earned his doctorate from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine (now known as Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine) in 1971.

He is a proud Alumni of Indiana University and the fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa.

He compassionately served his native city of LaPorte for 47 years before retiring. He was passionate about his love to help others while he unraveled mysteries hidden beneath one’s soles. His vibrant personality and joyful spirit had a way of lifting others up while touching their hearts at the same time. It was common to hear his happy soul singing to the Beach Boys and many other Golden Oldies. His singing hobby launched during his time at Indiana University as he was chosen to be part of the well-known Singing Hoosiers.

He loved to give back to his community as he served many years with the La Porte Jaycees and participated in several musicals at the Little Theater. His love for podiatry and unwavering dedication to his community will always be remembered and admired.

A celebration of life will be held privately for the family.
