Douglas Edward Steffey, age 69, of Kingsford Heights, Indiana, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026.
He was born on July 15, 1956, in St. Joseph, Michigan, to Marvin and Dorothy (Newbaur) Steffey.
Douglas was a man who showed his love through action. He was happiest when his hands were busy—working on cars, fixing something around the house, tending to the yard, or tinkering with a new project. A master mechanic, he spent 25 years working at Michiana Forklift, where he took pride not only in his work, but in the relationships he built along the way. In his younger years,
Douglas loved camping, fishing, and hunting, especially when those moments were shared with family.
He was a devoted husband to Sharon Kay Wiley, whom he married on August 11, 1998, and with whom he shared many loving years. He said he knew from the moment he saw her, that she was the one he would spend the rest of his life with. Douglas was a wonderful father and a loving presence to his many grandchildren. He was simply “Grandpa Doug,” a role that brought him endless pride and joy. He had a huge heart and loved hard, always putting family first.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his brothers Phillip Steffey, Greg Steffey and Glen Steffey, his children Nikki (Paul) Steffey, Steven Steffey, Kristi (Matthew) Tepper, Jennifer (David) McVay, Scott B. Phillips, Jeffery (Valentina) Phillips, Daniel (Michelle) Pytlarz, and Carl (Becky) Wilson; and his many grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Steffey and his brother, Dennis Steffey.
Cremation has been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Essling Chapel, and a Celebration of Life will be held in July at Riverview Park in St. Joseph, MI.
Douglas will be remembered for his quiet strength, his huge heart, and the deep love he had for his family.
