Donn Richard Haefner, 91, of South Bend, Indiana, was welcomed into Heaven on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. He was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully in the comfort of his own home that he had lived in for 56 years. He was born on March 30, 1932, to the late Albert and Helene Haefner of South Bend, IN.
Donn was a proud graduate of Purdue University and honorably served in the United States Army before working as a Mechanical Engineer for Raco for 38 years. Donn was a quiet, gentle man who took pride in providing for his family and enjoyed his ice cream and vanilla milkshakes, as well as his dog, Barney.
On July 6, 1958, Donn married Patricia Suzan Cunningham who preceded him into Heaven on September 19, 2016. He is now able to be reunited with her.
Donn is survived by his beloved daughter, Lori (John) Kersey of South Bend; and beloved son, Kenneth R. Haefner of South Bend; and grandchildren, Julianne Taylor and Jacob (Taylor) Kersey.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Kalkbrenner.
He will be immensely missed, but while his family is saddened by the loss, we eagerly anticipate reuniting in Heaven, where we rejoice with the knowledge that he is at peace and without pain.
Private services will take place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in La Porte, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice at 1419 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, IN 46563, as they were able to provide Donn and his family with the comfort of passing peacefully in the place he wanted to be the most. Contributions can also be made to Pet Refuge, 4626 S. Burnett Dr., South Bend, IN 46614, as Donn loved the dogs he had throughout the years.
