Clayton Schultz Obituary

Clayton Schultz, 90, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 9, 2026. He was born on July 7, 1935, in La Porte to the late Lawrence and Lucille (Clayton) Schultz.

Clayton dedicated 40 years of service to the G.T.E. Telephone Company, where he worked as a lineman, cable splicer, and in facility maintenance. He was known for his strong work ethic, a value he instilled in his children throughout his life.

A lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 1542 in La Porte, Clayton was deeply involved over the years, including serving as a past Grand Knight. He treasured the friendships he formed there, especially during canoe trips, bowling and golf outings, and time spent playing cards in the club room. He cherished a unique and lasting bond with his friends at the Pipe Shop, a place he visited often for lively card games, warm cups of coffee, and the easy comfort of true camaraderie.

Clayton had a passion for winemaking and maintained his own vineyard for several years, generously sharing his creations with family and friends. He also found joy in collecting small junk and curiosities.

Together with his beloved wife, Norma, Clayton was a member of the Kankakee Valley Harley Group. They shared a love of motorcycling and created many lasting memories traveling together on their Harley touring bike. They also enjoyed many long weekends camping with their close-knit group of friends, the Phantom Campers.

On September 17, 1955, Clayton married Norma Jean Krysiak, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Rosemarie (Michael) St. Clair of Holland, Michigan, Marianne Steen of La Porte, Indiana, and Brian P. Schultz of La Porte, Indiana; his grandchildren, Kathryn (Nathan) Troxell, Sarah (Ryan) Wade/Jones, Natalie (Leo) Siciliano, Nicholas (Danielle) St. Clair, Shannon (Augustine) Mangione, and Mercedes Schultz; his great-grandchildren, Isabelle Troxell, Mason Jones, Kai Jones, Rowdy Lee Duckwell, Hunter St. Clair, and Zoey St. Clair; and his siblings, John (Mary) Schultz and Mary Jo Hornsby. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Anthony Schultz; and his brother, William Schultz.
