Charles Behrendt Obituary

Charles Robert "Charlie Tuna" Behrendt, 74, of Knox, Indiana passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

Charlie was born October 29, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska to the late Bernard and Ellanore (Miller) Behrendt. On December 18, 1976, Charles married Christine (Gould), wed nearly 45 years. He is survived by his wife and children: Chris Behrendt of Waterloo, Nebraska, Vicki (Tregg) Jobman of Omaha, Nebraska, Angela (Jason) Mclaughlin of Las Vegas Nevada, Kimberly (JT) McDermott of La Porte; and seven grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald Behrendt.

Charlie owned and operated several businesses in Douglas County, Nebraska including Nowhere Special Tavern in Valley Nebraska, the Merchant of Venice in Venice, Nebraska and Charlie T’s in Valley, Nebraska. He thoroughly enjoyed classic cars and farm equipment, American History, gardening, smoking meats, attending auctions and shooting the breeze with friends over a drink. He was incredibly involved in his communities as a member of the Lions Club, Sons of the American Legion, Timber Lodge Lake Association, Warsaw Historical Society, Sterett Creek Village Board of Trustees, Benton County Elks Lodge #2783, Warsaw, MO, and a legacy board member of the Valley Fire and Rescue District #5. 

Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be held in early summer 2021 in Valley, Nebraska.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Charlie's name to the Valley Fire and Rescue Protection, District #5, 210 W. Church Street, Valley, Nebraska 68064.
