Carolyn Jean (Adams) Johnson

Carolyn Jean Johnson, 91, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023. 

Carolyn was born June 1, 1931, in Brazil, Indiana to the late J. Frank and Elva (Downing) Adams.

Carolyn was a graduate of Butler University and Valparaiso University. She taught elementary school in Indianapolis, Indiana, Euclid, Ohio, and La Porte, Indiana at Hailman, Lincoln and Crichfield Schools, retiring in 1993. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, Beacon Hills Golf League, and the Republican Party. She loved dogs, bird watching, golf, the computer, reading, Italian Tenors, and crossword puzzles. She had a wry sense of humor and enjoyed posting her opinions online. Carolyn was an animal lover and dog sat for beloved family pets for many years following her retirement.

In 1954, Carolyn married William H. Johnson who preceded her in death in 1983. Carolyn is survived by a step-daughter, Karen (Robert) Bortz; six step-grandchildren; and numerous step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; and a daughter, Judith Ryden.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery.
