Caroline Blad Obituary

Caroline Mae Blad, 85, of Bremen, Indiana passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022, at her home in Bremen, Indiana. Caroline was born on March 23, 1936 in La Porte, Indiana to Louis and Stella (Soja) Harenzo. She was a registered nurse and homemaker. Caroline is survived by her husband of 63 years, Russell W. Blad; her four children, Karin Blad of Redlands, California, Susan (Michael Huckaby) Noe’ of Myakka City, Florida, Carolyn (Brian) Donathen of North Liberty, Indiana, Allen (Tracey) Blad of Dallas, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren, Austin Blad, Hannah Blad, Erik (Leah Hunt) Blad, Garrett Blad, Tiffany Beckham, Rylan (Madissen) Donathen, Carlee (Dave Spencer) Donathen; and 3 great grandchildren, Logan, Stella, and Aspen. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose (Walter) Fickel and Norma Jean (James) Lanz. Caroline graduated from Rolling Prairie High School in 1954 and from St. Mary Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. After her children were grown, she worked at the New Carlisle Public Library and at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, Goshen, Indiana, in the library as well as working with the children during recesses. She enjoyed volunteering at St. Joseph County Right to Life and was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bremen, Indiana. Most important to Caroline were her Catholic faith and family. She also enjoyed fishing, walks in the park, reading, trying new restaurants, and wine tasting. A Catholic Mass will be held for her at 10 a.m. (E.S.T.) on Friday, February 25, 2022, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 803 W. Bike Street, Bremen, Indiana 46506, and will be officiated by Reverend Daniel Niezer. Burial will follow at Patton Cemetery in La Porte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel in La Porte, Indiana.
