Carlton Dixon Obituary

Carlton Eugene Dixon, 94, of La Porte, Indiana passed from this earth on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

He was born near Tilton, Arkansas to Howard and Hazel Dixon. Carlton was born on September 21, 1929. His dad, often joking, told people that Carlton caused the Big Depression that started in September 1929.

They owned a farm just two miles south of Tilton. In 1938 his dad sold the farm and moved his family to South Texas where he found work. They later moved to Port Isabel, Texas where Carlton grew up. Carlton grew up to be a workaholic just like his dad.

He married Betty Lou Duke in 1950. Betty gave birth to two children, Nola Ann and Charles Michael Dixon. They moved to Austin, Texas. In 1951, when uncle Sam desired him to be one of his military men, Carlton joined the U.S. Navy and became a Hospital Corpsman. He spent 30 years in the Navy and his rank was Master Chief Hospital Corpsman. Carlton’s first wife, Betty passed away from cancer.

When he retired, he bought some land in Beeville, Texas where his second wife, Vera Lee Shook Dixon passed away from a brain tumor. He later married Naomi Bryant Dixon and she passed away from congestive heart failure. Carlton always said he did not like to live alone. He moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 2016 where his daughter Nola Ann Fulkerson lives with her husband Danny.

In 2018 he met and married Marth Wood Dixon who survives. When their senior life home closed they moved to La Porte, Indiana where her family lives nearby. Carlton was a member of the Church of Christ from age 14 to death.

He is survived by Nola (Danny) and his brother, Denzil Dixon. He also has many step children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, double cousins, cousins and many many friends. Leonora Ann, Gloria Ann, son Michael, brother Wayne, and sister Rita all preceded him in death.
