Allen E. Chlupacek, 79, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, in Walkerton, Indiana surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 4, 1945, in La Porte, Indiana, to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Okrzesik) Chlupacek, Allen was a man of faith, humor, and unwavering spirit who made a lasting impact on his community and the lives of many.
Allen's life was one of service and dedication. After bravely serving his country in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1967, he continued his commitment to his fellow veterans as Past 3rd District Commander of the V.F.W., Past Commander of the V.F.W. post 1130 and then a member of post 1954, and a member of the American Legion post 400, Fish Lake. He was also a valued member of Vietnam Veterans Incorporated, Amvets, and relished the camaraderie found at the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization reunions. Allen's advocacy for veterans was a testament to his caring nature, as he tirelessly helped others obtain the benefits they deserved.
Following his military service, Allen pursued an education at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois, where he earned an associate's degree. His professional life was as diverse as it was honorable; he worked as a farmer, served as a clerk at the Rolling Prairie Post Office, and eventually became the respected Post Master at the Mill Creek Post Office. His work ethic and friendly demeanor made him a beloved figure in his professional circles.
Allen's personal life was filled with love and laughter. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Spence, on October 24, 1970. Together, they raised a family that included their children, Allen Chlupacek of Avon, Indiana; David Chlupacek and his wife, Meredith, of Walkerton, Indiana; Paul Chlupacek and his wife, Jessica, of Fish Lake, Indiana; and Andy Chlupacek and his wife, Emily, of Walkerton, Indiana. He was a doting grandfather to Mitch, Edie, Ann, Vinny, Andrew, Kadence, and Cole. Allen's legacy continues through his family, who will forever cherish his memory and the values he instilled in them.
Allen is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn, his children and grandchildren, and his siblings, Roman Chlupacek and his wife Carol of La Porte, Indiana; Joanne Janisch and her husband, Paul of La Porte, Indiana; and Monica Ellis and her husband, David of Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, and to many brothers and sisters-in-law on the Spence side of the family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Elizabeth; a grandson, Frank Arthur Chlupacek; and a sister-in-law, Jean Chlupacek.
A man of faith, Allen was a devoted member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. His faith-filled life was an inspiration to many, and his friendly and spirited nature made him a friend to all who knew him. Allen's sense of humor brought joy and lightness to even the most challenging times, and his presence was a source of comfort and strength to his community.
