Alice Mayone (Gussman) MacCartney

Alice Mayone MacCartney, 86, of Union Mills, Indiana passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

Alice was born October 25, 1936, in Hammond, Indiana to the late Louis and Elizabeth (Stetson) Gussman.

On June 23, 1956 Alice married David MacCartney who preceded her in death on January 7, 2022.

Alice was a Registered Nurse. She was a loving mother, loved to travel to the Southwest, and made 50 plus trips to Las Vegas with her dear friends. She also loved to read, play pinochle, and especially play bunco for 50 years with her bunco club. She loved old movies and westerns. She was very well known for her cooking, especially spaghetti and pies. Alice and her husband enjoyed trying new things such as ballroom dancing and scuba diving. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in La Porte for over 20 years, delivered meals on wheels, bowled in a senior bowling league, belonged to a square dance club, and loved to dine out, with Louie’s Cafe being her favorite. 

Alice is survived by her daughters, Janet (Mark) Woodke of Lowell, Indiana and Kelly (Jeff) Koontz of Union Mills, Indiana; grandchildren, Joslyn (Adam) Stemple, Ryan Koontz, David Hipp, Kyle (Lexi) Koontz, Jessica Koontz, Ashley Schuld, and Justin Piper; great grandchildren, Madison, Hunter, & Colton Koontz, Elizabeth, David James Hipp, Noah Stemple, and Ava Koontz; many nieces and nephews who she loved very much; her dearest best friend of 82 years, Joan Preston; and dear friends including Jane Teller, Lynn Kizer, and Connie Gonzales who is deceased; many other friends; and special neighbors, Donny and Heather Pozil and their daughters, Nora and Evelyn; and her caregiver, Morgan Hansen. Also surviving is Kim (Jeff) Piper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; and two brothers, Louis and David (Patricia) Gussman.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A funeral will begin at 3 p.m. following the visitation.
