Robert Harold Jonas

Robert Harold Jonas, 57, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Friday, May 25, 2018.

Robert was born June 2, 1960, in La Porte, Indiana to Robert Quinn and Sandra (Larson) Jonas.

He is survived by his mother, Sandra Kay (Larson) Jonas; two uncles, Ronald Charles (Elena) Larson of La, Porte and Jerry Wallace of La Porte; three Aunts, Karon Lee (John) Little of Carrollton, Texas, Sharon Lee Parker of Empire, Alabama, and Marcia Jonas Johnson of La Porte.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert T. and Helen Jonas, Harold Charles Larson and Lucille (Ribordy) Larson-York; step-grandfather Charles York; a brother, Larry Jonas; and an aunt, Marlene Wallace.

Robert attended Boston Junior High School and graduated from La Porte High School in 1978.  In 1981 he graduated with honors from Wyoming Technical Institute in Laramie, Wyoming.  He started his career in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he lived until 1993.  He had to move back to La Porte to be closer to his family after a serious illness.  He was a Red Coat Volunteer at the La Porte Hospital during his recovery.  He also worked part time as a maintenance mechanic at a local dairy farm.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping.  He also enjoyed working with wood and in time became a self-taught accomplished wood crafter.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018, at the funeral home.  Reverend Ian Williams will officiate. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Salvation Army, or to the Charity of Donor’s Choice.
