Richard E. Roderick (Rod) died at home on December 18, 2018. Rod was born in Mount Holly, New Jersey on June 27, 1944.
Rod grew up in Collingswood, New Jersey and was a retired Advertising Executive, Writer, and Stage Actor.
He is survived by his brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Sigrid Roderick of Long Beach, Indiana; his sons, Fred Roderick of Coloma, Michigan and August Roderick of Collings Lakes, New Jersey; his granddaughter, Summer Roderick of Howell, New Jersey; and his step children, Dara and John Brian Paprock.
Rod was a kind and generous father to his children and knew the love of many extended family members and friends. He was proud to live in a diverse community and country filled with kindness which he spread by treating all he encountered with dignity and respect. Rod passed that quality on to his children to accept and celebrate our differences of race, sex, and religion.
Rod was happy on the stage performing in community theater starting in the South Carolina’s Swamp Fox players and locally at the Dune Summer Theater and the Footlight Theater. He enjoyed the challenge stage acting brought as well as the excitement of rehearsal with his fellow thespians. He often quoted his favorite writers, like Oscar Wilde, “Be Yourself. Everyone else is already taken.”
A memorial service may be held at a later date.
Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana is in charge of arrangements.
