Welcome to the memorial page for

Norman Edward Wood

April 10, 1929 ~ June 14, 2017 (age 88) 88 Years Old

Norman Edward "The Paint Man" Wood, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in the comfort of his home surrounded by family and love.

Born April 10, 1929 to Raymond and Mary (Turner) Wood in Laporte Indiana, Norm spent his life giving and serving his community and country.

In 1950, Norm married Dorothy Kessler, who survives and together they have three children; Dennis Wood of Westfield, Connie Jonas of LaPorte and Bonnie (Phil) Werner, of Warsaw.

Norm was drafted in the United States Army in 1951 and served in Germany during the Korean War.

A lifetime resident of LaPorte, Norm was a member of St Paul United Church of Christ and the local Moose. He worked for Allis Chalmers, and retired from Modines in 1992. After a short 6 months of retirement, he returned to work at Kablin's Ace Hardware, where he managed the paint counter until 2012.

Norm knew no stranger and was the perfect example of loving his neighbors. He lived for a cold beer, his Chicago Cubs, and quiet Saturday nights with his grandkids snuggled under his arms watching The Grand Ole Opry. Norm had a smile that would melt away grey skies and the heart of a saint.

His presence will be missed by many, but the joy that he brought to this world will live on in all of the lives he has touched.

Norm is survived by his loving wife, brother, Jack Wood of Bellingham, WA, his three children, seven grandchildren; Aubree (Greg) Ritter, Angola; Kimm (Aaron) Silveus, Warsaw; Philip (Kate) Werner, Seattle; Jeremy (Stephanie) Jonas, LaPorte; Sara (Tim) Lopez, LaPorte; Amanda (Trey) Wood, Westfield; Tyler (Jazmine) Jonas, LaPorte. His 18 great grandchildren will carry on his legacy.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, his five brothers; Willard, Frankie, Walt, Raymond and Eugene Wood and his two sisters; Marquette Schultz and Lois Ransom.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at the La Porte Church of the Brethren, 414 Hawthorne Street, La Porte, Indiana.

Donations can be made to The Center for Hospice Foundation.
