Mary Katherine (Boyle) Smith

Mary Kathrine Boyle Smith passed away peacefully Saturday morning, July 9th in Naples, FL at the age of 83 after an extended illness. 

The daughter of John and Kathrine Boyle, Mrs. Smith was born in ​Atlanta, GA.  She was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women and Florida State University, where she pursued her master’s degree in Dietetics.  After graduation she had careers in nutrition, education and eventually owned her own framing and needlework business in Peru, Indiana.  But her greatest achievement was her family. 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years T. Michael Smith of LaPorte, IN and Naples, FL, and her son Timothy Mathew Smith.  Mrs. Smith is survived by four daughters:  Mary Susan Smith of Naples, FL; Sheila Douglas of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; Sara Baldwin of Naples, FL; and Sharon Linard of Baltimore, OH.  Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Kathrine Smith, Stephanie Smith, Fiona Douglas, Owen Douglas, Megan Linard, Kara Linard, Virginia Linard, Mathew Linard, Adam Douglas and Sarah Douglas Frontini. 

An avid reader, she travelled the world and enjoyed her volunteer work at Palm Cottage in Naples and the Collier County Library.  Mrs. Smith was a parishioner at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples.  

Services will be held on Friday, July 15th in LaPorte, IN.  Visitation will be 9am at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am at St. Peter Catholic Church, in La Porte, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, La Porte.
