Margaret Emma (Huge) Nowak

Margaret Emma Nowak, 89 of La Porte, Indiana passed away on April 26, 2019 at Brentwood Assisted Living Community in La Porte.

She was born in La Porte on May 31, 1929 to Edward and Kathryn (Fenker) Huge and lived here her entire life.  She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert; her parents; her brothers Edward and Robert; and sisters Louise, Marie and Doris.

On September 10, 1949, she married Herbert M. Nowak also of La Porte. Together they owned and operated the offices of Nowak Real Estate in downtown La Porte.  After Herbert’s death in 1983, Margaret obtained her salesperson and brokers licenses and worked managing the office and selling real estate at Nowak Real Estate until she retired in 2010.  She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of La Porte. Margaret was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed. 

She leaves behind five sons, David (Donna) Nowak of Elizabethtown, Indiana, Ronald (Linda Stevens) Nowak of La Porte, Thomas (Terri) Nowak of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Steven (Donna) Nowak of La Porte, Indiana, Robert Nowak of Indianapolis, Indiana; a daughter, Mary (Paul) Wachter of Sayville, New York; 11 grandchildren, Adam, Jenna, Kara, Katie, Sarah, Ellie, Meg, Steven, Rachael, Emily and Olivia; ten great grandchildren, Audrey, Clark, Gideon, Mila, Ayden, Wesley, Maya, Evie, Gracie and Louis.

A funeral celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, 111 Kingsbury Avenue, La Porte, Indiana 46350. Reverend Ronald A. Brauer will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Friday in the church. Burial will follow in Patton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
