John Yates

John Yates, 67, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018.

John was born April 8, 1951 to H. Marvin and Sylvia (Jasinowski) Yates.

On September 22, 1973 he married Karen Fallis who survives.

John is also survived by a daughter, Melissa (T.J.) Beckwith of Westfield, Indiana; a son, Christopher (Laura) Yates of Noblesville, Indiana; four grandchildren, Allison Beckwith, Colten, Gage and Noelle Yates.

John was the owner of La Porte Sporting Goods his family owned business for 54 years.  He graduated from La Porte High School and Ball State University where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta.  He also was a former member of La Porte City Park Foundation, La Porte Jaycees, La Porte Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, La Porte YMCA Board of Directors and Trustee, La Porte County Extension Board, Christian Business Men’s Association, Kiwanis, First Source Bank Advisory Board, and St. Peter Catholic Church where he served as a president of the parish council and was a lector and eucharistic minister.  John was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan A. Yates.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at St. Peter Catholic Church in La Porte. Family and friends may gather at 9:00 am Wednesday in the funeral home. Reverend Ian Williams will officiate.
