James F. Weiss, 94, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018.
James was born March 22, 1924 in La Porte, Indiana to Frederick and Frances (Lewandowski) Weiss.
On May 25, 1946 in La Porte, Indiana James married Beverly L. Olson who preceded him in death on July 8, 2012.
James leaves behind two daughters, Linda (Bill) Wobio of Clermont, Florida and Jan Weiss of Mishawaka, Indiana; four grandchildren, Tom Wobio, Kelly Wobio, Emily (Jason) Weaver, and Blair Whorwell; two great grandsons, Benjamin Wakeman and Samuel Wobio; a great granddaughter, Payton Eisele; three step great-grandchildren, Damon, Brody, and Shane; a sister, Betty Cramer; several nieces; and extended family Dennis, Luann, and Kent Whorwell. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Aileen Schirr.
James was a Superintendent of Central Stores for NIPSCO for 42 years. He also was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church where he served on the funeral committee and was an usher, American Legion #83, and Knights of Columbus. James served his country in the United States Army, in the WWII 96th Infantry Division where he received two purple hearts and two bronze stars.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. C.S.T. Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. C.S.T. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1110 Monroe Street, La Porte, Indiana. Family and friends may visit one hour prior at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Ian Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery with Military Honors.
