Gerald Edwin Henrichs, 69, of Hamlet, Indiana passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019.
He was born August 28, 1949 in La Porte, Indiana to Henry Johnson and Violet Lillian (Jonushaitis) Henrichs.
On May 26, 1984 Gerald married Dorinda McGugin who survives. Gerald also leaves behind two step-sons, Eric Allen Standefer of La Porte, Indiana and Christopher Charles Standefer of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Melodie Gatz of Michigan City, Indiana and Linda (Charles) Bowker of South Bend, Indiana; and a brother, H. James (Elizabeth) Henrichs of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Gerald retired in 2010 from the Indiana State Highway Department as a Project Supervisor and was previously an Inspector in the Construction department and a Surveyor in the development department when he began his career in 1975.
He served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam war and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Sharpshooter (M-14), 2 Overseas Bars, Expert (M-16), and Good Conduct Medal (1St Award).
Gerald was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, the South Bend Radio Control Flying Club in Bremen, Indiana and the Radio Control Flying Club in Kingsbury, Indiana. He enjoyed camping and pontooning.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2019 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 102 G. Street, La Porte, Indiana 46350. Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. following the visitation. Pastor Dennis Meyer will officiate. Military honors will take place immediately following the funeral.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.
