Carol (Striegel) Fara

Carol Striegel Fara, 86 passed away on February 13, 2019 at Valparaiso Care & Rehabilitation Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.  She was born on July 22, 1932 in Chicago Illinois to Lawrence G Striegel and Marjorie E (Besser) Striegel.  Carol grew up in La Porte, Indiana.  She graduated from La Porte High School in 1950.  After high school she attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  

Carol married Tom Fara on December 30, 1952 in Honolulu, HI. They were married for 24 years.  After marriage Carol moved to Scottsdale Arizona.  There she worked as an Administrative Assistant for California Eastern Labs and later as a Sales Representative for The Paper Place.  Carol retired in 2010.

After retirement she enjoyed summers in La Porte with friends and family.  She returned to La Porte permanently in 2016 where she was a resident at Brentwood Senior Living.

Carol enjoyed people and conversation.  She would engage in it frequently and indiscriminately.  She worked the cross word puzzle each day and loved a small bowl of ice cream topped with cold coffee each night. Carol was a thoughtful, self-sufficient, and energetic person; thru her hard work and financial responsibility she was able to provide for her own retirement and care. 

She is survived by sons Thomas A Fara (Teresa), Michael F Fara (Deb), Daniel R Fara (Dot ) all of La Porte; sister, Marilyn Dunham of La Porte; brother Larry Striegel of Scottsdale Arizona; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. 

A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday following the visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Porte.  Burial will take place in St. Joseph Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St Joseph Catholic Church, 109 C. Street, La Porte, Indiana 46350.
