BEVERLY (MERCHANT) OLSON

Beverly (Merchant) Olson, 94, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Fountain View Terrace, Golden Living Center.

Beverly Mae Merchant was born July 30, 1920 in LaPorte, Indiana to Earl and Bernice Merchant.  On September 28, 1940, Beverly married Kermit H. Olson, the Love of her Life. Their life revolved around family and an agricultural life here in LaPorte. Together they raised 3 daughters.

Beverly was very involved in the community with being a Member of Pinola Grange (75yrs), Pimona Grange (50yrs), Scipio Township Home Extension Club (over 70yrs), Scipio Township Farm Bureau (over 50Yrs) Phi Wives (over 10yrs). She was a 4-H leader to two generations of children and loved entering contests with her sewing, crafts and baking.

She was a lifelong member of St. Peter Church, where she was a longtime member of the Rosary Society, the St. Monica Circle and the Funeral Choir.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Betty (Merchant) Knoll, her husband of almost 50 years and her daughter, Barbara Olson.

Surviving Beverly are daughters, Sandra Olson and Anna Olson Eskridge (Dan) Lenardson; grandchildren, Heather (Marc) Hill, Leslie (David) Buckner, Aaron (Kelly) Eskridge, Kathryn (Richard) Pennington; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2014 at the Essling Funeral Home 1117 Indiana Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana, with a Rosary at 5p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014, at 10 a.m. St. Peter Catholic Church, with services beginning a 9 a.m. in the funeral home.  Burial will follow in Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.

Memorial gifts may be made to, St. Peter Catholic Church, The Woman’s Care Center, Lincoln Elementary School Library or the Alzheimer’s Association.
