Zachary James McCoy

Zachary James McCoy, 22 of La Porte, Indiana passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016.  Zachary was born October 14, 1993 in South Bend to Patrick and Susan (Gazdick) McCoy.  He was employed with the Waste-Away Group in Elkhart, Indiana. 

Zachary attended Kingsbury and St. Joseph elementary schools, Kesling middle school, and graduated from La Porte High School in 2012.  Zach had a passion for soccer.  He began playing at the young age of three.  He grew up playing for the  LaPorte Travel and Junior Irish soccer clubs. He was a leader, being selected by his High School teammates to serve as team Captain and MVP for three consecutive years. He was recognized as an all conference, all district, and all area player several times throughout his career. He was named HA Soccer Player of the year in 2009 and 2011.  He went on to play varsity soccer for Bethel College on a scholarship.  One of Zach’s favorite weekend activities was to hold “Night Soccer” tournaments on the home pitch under the lights with his high school buddies.

Zach’s awesome smile, sense of humor, and easy going personality made it easy for everyone who met him to love him.  He was especially loved and cherished by his parents, brothers, and grandparents. Though he is now in a place where he can find peace, he will be missed dearly. He is survived by his parents, Patrick and Susan McCoy of La Porte, Indiana; brothers, Alexander and Joshua McCoy of La Porte, Indiana; maternal grandparents, Carolyn and James Gazdick of La Porte, Indiana; his faithful dog, Stella; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends and teammates.  Zachary was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mary Lou Sanders, and Martin Craig McCoy. 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, ESSLING CHAPEL, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in La Porte.  Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Saturday at Essling Funeral Home.
