Wanda Rae (Kuhl) Baird

Wanda Rae Baird (Nee Kuhl), 85, currently of Louisville, KY passed away Friday, December 5, 2014.

Wanda is survived by a daughter, Marla Rae (Baird) Vido, husband Paul J. Vido, of Louisville KY; a son, Patrick W. Baird of Rolling Prairie, IN; two grandsons, Michael Baird, of Rolling Prairie, IN and Jason Baird, Ocala, FL; nieces, Judy Batista (Wilfred), Nancy Coughlin (Del), of AZ, Patty Stephens of Hobart, IN; Linda and Larry Hedges, of Merrillville, IN and several grand nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her former husband, William Baird.

Wanda was born August 27, 1929, to Joseph Rae Kuhl and Laura Belle Stoner Kuhl, in Gary IN.  She graduated from East Gary Edison in 1948.  Wanda started work in the Rolling Prairie Post Office as a clerk in 1958, appointed to Postmaster in 1984, then retired October of 1992.  Rolling Prairie knew her as Mrs. Claus at Christmas Time, as she initiated the Santa Claus box for the children and answered every letter.  She was an officer in the National League of Postmasters, President of South Bend and Gary IN Chapter of Postmasters, four years Vice President State League of Postmasters, State Legislative Chairman & Chairman of numerous National Committees.  She received numerous awards for lobby safety and philatelic displays.  After retirement she moved to Mesa, AZ until 2012 when she moved to Louisville KY.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Moving Forward Limb Loss Support Group c/o Belinda Jacobi, 4219 Lakeside Dr., Sellersburg, IN 47172.

Visitation will be from 11a.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014, Essling Funeral Home, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where funeral services will begin at 2 p.m.  Burial will follow in Rolling Prairie Cemetery.
