W. L. Bunky Bunton

W. L. “Bunky” Bunton, 85, of LaPorte, Indiana passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 at Countryside Place Nursing Home, LaPorte, Indiana.  Bunky was born on June 1, 1930 in LaPorte, Indiana to Thelma (Barnhart) Bunton and Jerry Bunton.  He retired from NIPSCO as a plant operator with 25 years of service. 

On August 31, 1963 in LaPorte, Indiana Bunky married Gertrude H. Konieczny who survives.  Surviving with his wife Gertrude are his four daughters, Christine (Ron) Landberg of Arvada, Colorado, Nancy (David) Wilber of LaPorte, Indiana, Josie Horn of Tampa, Florida, and Paula (Terry) Waak of LaPorte, Indiana; four granddaughters and six great grandchildren; three brothers Mick (Diane) Bunton of LaPorte, Indiana, Tom Bunton of LaPorte, Indiana, and Jack (Nancy) Bunton of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.

Bunky was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jerry Bunton, a grandson, a great grandson, and sister-in-law Judy Bunton.

Bunky graduated from LaPorte High School in 1948, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War in the First Marine Air Wing.  He also was a member of Marine Corp League #1348, LaPorte VFW Post, and LaPorte Moose Lodge.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2015, Essling Funeral Home- Frank L. Keszei Funeral Director, 1117 Indiana Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2015, St. Peter Catholic Church.  Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Saturday at Essling Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Patton Cemetery with military honors. 

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor’s choice.
