Matthew Michael Troy

Matthew Michael Troy, 77, of La Porte, Indiana passed away peacefully Monday, July 11, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. 

Matthew was born July 31, 1938 in Dublin, Ireland to Matthew Edward and Mary Anne (Byrne) Troy.  He emigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1949. He went on to proudly serve in the United States Marine Corps and also became a golden gloves boxing champion. On January 6, 1968, he married Barbara Kriesel who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Patrick (Kelly) Troy of Michigan City, Matthew (Joni) Troy of La Porte, Erin (Lee) White of La Porte; seven grandchildren who absolutely adored him: Shamus Matthew Troy, Maureen Elizabeth Troy, Margaret Mary Troy, Daniel Lee White, Darby Katherine Troy, Josephine Angeline Troy, & Samuel Matthew White; sisters, Sheila (Charles) Ponsier of La Porte, & Marie Sawicki of Mesa, Arizona; and many beloved cousins in Ireland.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Antoinette Lauderdale, and a brother, Paul Allen Troy. 

Matthew was the owner of Troy Real Estate and then later Troy Appraisers.  During this time he served as president of the local Board of Realtors and vice president for the Indiana State Board of Realtors.  He was also voted Realtor of the year twice.  He formerly managed the Credit Bureau of La Porte, and before that he worked in finance in Indianapolis. He was a caring and compassionate man who also served on the local human rights commission.  He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a thoughtful friend, and a most extraordinary grandfather who touched everyone who met him.  He had a deep love for blues music and restoring antique radios.  He was also passionate about his beloved Irish heritage and wrote a memoir that his family is publishing. 

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, ESSLING CHAPEL, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A funeral service will be at 4 p.m. in the funeral home with Reverend Ian Williams officiating, followed by a military service.
