Marie Jane (Ziarnek) Mazur

Marie Jane Mazur, 87, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Marie was born June 25, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois to Theophil and Veronica (Dressler) Ziarnek. 

On July 19, 1947, Marie married Chester Mazur who preceded her in death on May 2, 1989.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gene Mazur; sisters, Christine Todd, Maxine Avery, Eleanor Minich, Irene Baczkiewicz, Mildred Ziarnek; and a stillborn brother. 

Marie worked at the Adeline Hat factory; retired from Howmet after 32 years of service; and worked in the family business, Cater-Aid The Silver Server.

Marie leaves behind a daughter, Donna (Lawrence) Norris of La Porte; sons, Lawrence (Laura) Mazur of La Porte, Jerry (Kathy) Mazur of La Porte, and Justin Mazur of South Bend; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a sister, Bernadette (Mike) Sanders of Ohio.

Marie was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the church choir. She was also a member of Our Lady of Snows.  She was a certified floral arranger, and loved ceramics, sewing, and painting.  She was a temporary Foster parent to five children and a den mother.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at St. Peter Catholic Church.  Family and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peter Catholic Church.
