I have just learned of Laura's passing and my heart is broken. She was a dear friend and colleague for many years. We giggled like school girls, talked of family, admired beautiful jewelry, and had a running commentary on our Catholic faith. Pancakes on Shrove Tuesday were one of our special traditions...I will honor her next week with a plate of pancakes and she will giggle from heaven. May God bless the Schmitt family.

I am truly sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences. I hope the Schmitt family will find some comfort and strength in Jesus promise of the earthly resurrection (John 5:28, 29) and the renewed Paradise earth, where death is an enemy (1 Corinthians 15:26) that will very soon be eliminated forever, and no family will mourn the death of a loved one (Revelation 21:4). This promise has been given by Almighty God Jehovah (Psalms 83:18). Truly, what a glorious and almost unbelievable day that will be! It's a reality though for God cannot lie (Titus 1:2). For more comforting and encouraging scriptures on the resurrection, please visit jw.org.

My sympathies to Laura's family and friends.

My deepest condolences, may you find courage and strength during this time. I worked with Laura and for many years we sat across each other, we could always share a Diet Coke and Chinese food while working late. She has a wonderful person, who loved her family, i loved her sense of humor and the many observations she shared and loved to hear about her sister and her traveling stories.

I'm very shocked and saddened to hear of Laura's passing. My sincere condolences to Laura's family. I worked with Laura at Fairfax County for many years. I remember the times we would sit and talk about all kinds of things. I really appreciated her kindness and realness. She will never be forgotten. God bless you all as you go through this time of grieving.

Laura was my friend for 51 years. We met in high school. I spent much time at her family's home. We took guitar lessons together; we played together at guitar mass. We shared the same political views and philosophies. I remember her working for the Red Cross in high school and working with the migrant workers in LaPorte County (I didn't even know there were migrant workers in La Porte County until I met Laura). This is such a huge loss for those of us who loved her. Our lives are much better for having known her.

I met Laura about 8 months ago and came to appreciate her joi de vivre and her vulnerability and sense of humor. She really had a great sense of humor and loved her family very, very much. Her loss is felt among our friends and we are honestly distraught at her sudden and unexpected passing. Please know that she was constantly trying to better herself and find peace in her life. Bless her keep in God's grace forever.

I knew Laura first as a colleague starting ten years ago when I was new to the Fairfax CSB, and she very generously and professionally offered me any assistance I might need on a grant we were both working on. With her curiosity, competence, intelligence, and knowledge she was a wonderful asset to any project. From there we quickly became friends and I came to love her warm personality, sly sense of humor, and critical and often funny observations of our peculiar world. She was great company, and I will greatly miss her. My condolences to the sibs that she loved and talked about all the time.

My deepest sympathies for your family. I worked with Laura and sat next to her for close to 16 years. She was an incredibly kind and caring person. She was a champion for the less fortunate and the underdogs of the world. She shared many stories about her family, her sisters in particular and the cruises she took with "Mouse." Everyday that Laura came into work she offered to share her lunch with me. She shared her dreams about retirement (movinig back to Indiana, buying a home, opening a used book store). She was a kind friend and a great sounding board for various work related issues.

Laura- Thank you for your friendship. You will be missed.

My deepest condolences to Laura's family.
I went through grade school and high school and Indiana University with Laura. In high school she volunteered for the Red Cross and sincerely wished to help others. I enjoyed talking with her because she was very intense and intellectual.
Even though I hadn't seen Laura in almost 40 years I heard of her career success thru her family occasionally.
Laura was truly a great lady.

Please accept my sincere condolences, warm thoughts and prayers as you mourn dear Laura. I, along with so many CSB colleagues, are still in shock over her sudden passing. I count my blessings that I was fortunate enough to share many laughs with Laura, as she worked evenings and I would often stop by to check in and say hello. We ALWAYS laughed; no matter what difficulties in life were facing us. I only knew Laura for two short years but that connection will live on in my heart forever.

I am deeply shocked and sadden at the passing of Laura. Laura Schmitt was one of the kindest and good hearted people that I have ever met in my life time. Her person, her warmth, and her sense of humor lit up a room upon her entering it. She had the gift of being able to make a point in the most poignant way. I will miss her greatly. My deepest condolences.

Wow- I was very sad to hear this news. I offer my sympathy and support. As a colleague at the Fairfax Falls Church CSB I will miss Laura. We had ocassion to work on a few projects together, Laura always knew more than me, but was open and willing to teach and help me grow. What I will miss most is our "over the cubicle connection" I would sit on the other side of her cubicle on ocassion- she would somehow know it was me, even if she did not see me. She was always there to offer everything she had, she knew if you needed a diet coke, a snack, or a cough drop--and was more than willing to share. May she rest in peace and may her memory be eternal !

I want to send my deepest condolences to Laura's family. I worked with Laura for many years and she spoke of you often with so much pride and love. She was always very excited when trips home were planned, as family was so important to her. Laura also had a deep commitment to the people she served, particularly those that struggled the most. She took a great deal of well-earned pride in her work and always wanted to get it right! I learned a lot from Laura. As all have experienced, this is a shocking loss and I wish you the very best.

I am truly saddened by the loss of Laura. I tried to talk her into coming to NC this past Thanksgiving and hoped that we could get a visit with her in the spring. I can hardly separate my love of DC from Laura. She hosted me two summers in a row when I interned with our beloved Hoosier Frank McCloskey. She toured me around, fed me (mertglop), entertained me (as we were movie junkies) and took care of me as if I were her own. She also had to save me a time or two from her crazy cat! She had a wonderful sense of humor and embraced everyone with kindness and understanding. Love and wonderful memories to you Laura!! Blessings and condolences to the Schmitt Family.

What a gem, she always had a positive outlook regardless of the situations we were facing providing services to our population. I am deeply saddened by this news and wish to express my sincere condolences to her family as they grieve their loss. She was a kind, gentle soul, may she rest in peace.

To Laura's family: I am so sorry for your loss...this is so unbelievable and sad. Laura was so amazing, so smart and had such a great sense of humor. She was a colleague, but also a friend. I know that she contributed so very much to her organization and the state system in behavioral health. And she was so widely respected for her contributions and dedication. She is already and will be missed. My sincere sympathy to you her family and her friends.
