Joseph James Vath

Joseph James Vath, 67 of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2015.  Joseph was born December 1, 1947 in Mount Prospect, Illinois to Fred and Catherine (Hogel) Vath. 

Joseph was a Vice President of Sales for Transco Railway Products, Inc. in Chicago, Illinois.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte, Indiana, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, St. Michael Council #1542, and 4th. degree member, in La Porte, Indiana, president of the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Parish, president of Meals on Wheels, in La Porte, Indiana, and a member of various Railroad associations.

On October 2, 1971 Joseph married Barbara Wistain.  Surviving with his wife Barbara are daughters, Lesley (Ralph) Shrader of Williamsport, Indiana, Alyssa (Jason) Fowler of Mishawaka, Indiana; grandchildren Emily, Riley, and Addison Shrader; a sister, Georgianna Kouba of Lemont, Illinois; and brothers, Fred (Jessie) Vath of Houston Texas, John (Penny) Vath of Downers Grove, Illinois, Richard (Maureen) Vath of Bonita Springs, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Katherine Tyler; and brothers, Robert and Donald Vath.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 PM Monday, January 19, 2015, Essling Funeral Home, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana, where a combined Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 7 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, La Porte, Indiana.  Family & friends are asked to gather at 9 AM Tuesday at Essling Funeral Home prior to the Mass.

Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Name Society of Sacred Heart Parish, Meals on Wheels of La Porte, or the Knights of Columbus, St. Michael Council #1542 in La Porte.
