Joan Julia (Walczak) Bernacchi

Joan Julia Bernacchi, 73, of LaPorte, Indiana passed away Thursday, October 5, 2017.

Joan was born on May 8, 1944 in Gary, Indiana to Edward and Anna (Hobdosh) Walczak.

On July 5, 1980 she married Gerald Bernacchi who survives.

Joan also leaves behind a son, Matthew Bernacchi of LaPorte, Indiana; a brother, Edward Walczak of Munster, Indiana; two nieces and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Bernacchi was a school teacher for 31 years at Crichfield Elementary School.  She loved her family, friends, reading, baking and her pets.  Joan also was a member of Sacred Heart Church. Her faith was an important part of her life.

Visitation will be from 9-11 am Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana, 46350.

Funeral services will be at 11am, following the visitation, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel.  Reverend Ian Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 Bach Street, LaPorte, Indiana, 46350, or the LaPorte County Humane Society, 722 Indiana Highway 212, Michigan City, Indiana 46360.
