James W. Arndt

James W. Arndt, 91, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Monday, March 5, 2018.  James was born on March 1, 1927, in La Porte to George Arndt Sr. and Susan (Harness) Arndt Blakeman.  He was a firefighter retiring from the La Porte Fire Department and had also been employed with Essling Funeral Home.  James was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, P.N.A. Rod and Gun Club, P.N.A. Club & Lodge #1120, past member of the La Porte City Zoning Board, and past member of the Pine Lake Cemetery Board.  James served his country in the Navy during WWII.

On October 28, 1950 in La Porte, James married Bernice Szawara who preceded him in death on January 9, 2016. 

James is survived by a daughter, Theresa (Michael) Hawk of La Porte; a grandson, Andrew Hawk; a great grandson, Kody Hawk; and half-sisters, LuAnn Nebelung and Judy Karbowsky of La Porte.  His son, Timothy Arndt, parents, and siblings, Robert and George Arndt Jr., and Shirley Zirzow all preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Porte. Burial will follow in Pine Lake Cemetery.
