Howard G. Freeland

Howard G. Freeland , 88, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday January 12, 2017.

Howard was born February 18, 1928, in La Porte, Indiana to Fred and Ella (Batzloff) Freeland. On May 2, 1953 in La Porte he married Florence E. Zirzow who preceded him in death on April 7, 2007. Howard retired from Allis Chalmers Company after 38 1/2 years as a Lead Man on the Assembly Line and was previously employed as a Security Guard with Pinkerton Security at Modine Manufacturing.   He was a former member of of Moose Lodge #925 and enjoyed crafts and woodworking.  He had attended St. John Lutheran Church.

Howard is survived by his son, Howard W. (Teresa Seifert) Freeland of Michigan City, Indiana; a grandson, Cole Seifert; three nieces and one nephew; and a niece, Stephanie Poyer of La Porte.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Florence; three sisters, Florence Freeland, Esther Lombard, and Bernice Moore; a brother, Fredrick Freeland; and a special sister-in-law, Ruth Poyer.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m.  Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, ESSLING CHAPEL, 1117 Indiana Ave, La Porte, Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
