Ellen Fay (Tolbert) Ifyu

Ellen Fay Ifyu, 92, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at Countryside Nursing Home, Golden Living in La Porte.

Ellen was born, January 3, 1923, in Newton County, Indiana to George and Iva (Williams) Tolbert.  She had lived in La Porte since 1979 coming from Merrillville, Indiana and was a homemaker.

In 1941 in Rensselaer, Indiana Ellen married Noble Wood who preceded her in 1954.  On January 26, 1956 in Merrillville, Ellen then married Lasslo Ifyu who preceded her on May 27, 1994.

Ellen was an active member of the Church of The Nazarene; Indiana Farm Bureau; and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Ellen is survived by two daughters Della (Bruce) Wittgren of Hanna, Indiana, Marlene (Jim) Slye, of Arvada Colorado; two sons, Douglas Ifyu of Hobart, Indiana, Robert Ifyu, Wheatfield, Indiana;  five grandchildren, Robert, Erica, Kelly, Deana (Cory) and Derek (Holly), six great grandchildren Zachary, Brilene, Cody, Dustin, Zachariah and Paige, one sister Jean Buntain, Rensselaer, Indiana; one niece, Joan Johnston, Valparaiso, Indiana; one nephew Richard Allen, Rensselaer, Indiana; two special sons, Randall Sutton of La Porte, and Jerry Mulderink, Wheatfield, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her husbands, two brothers and nine sisters.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015, Essling Funeral Home, Frank L. Keszei Funeral Director, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana.  Funeral service will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the Essling Funeral Home.   Burial will take place in Ross Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana at a later date.
