Ellen (Cook) Courtney

Ellen Cook Courtney, formerly of Crawfordsville, IN and Chicago, IL, died Tuesday April 14, 2015. She was born in 1921 to William D. and Helen Cook in Chicago. She attended St. Thomas the Apostle H.S. and Moser Business College in Chicago.

She married Charles R. Courtney of Yonkers, NY in 1944 (in Chicago). He died February 7, 2001.

When she was 55, she returned to school (Prairie State Community College, Chicago Heights, IL) to become a Registered Nurse and worked at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Dyer, IN.

Moved to San Francisco in 2004. Resident of Vintage Golden Gate. Member of St. Cecilia parish and the Presidio Chapter of the D.A.R.

Surviving are three children, six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren. One brother, William E. Cook is deceased.

Funeral Mass will be Monday May 18th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in LaPorte, Indiana. Burial at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte, Indiana, where her husband, parents, grandparents and great grandparents are buried.

Contributions in her memory can be made to Coming Home Hospice or St.Vincent de Paul Society.
